In writing his second book Edgar Peters examined four years of tick data in the S&P. He concluded that while short-term data is not totally random, the deterministic element is so small as to be barely measurable. He concluded that "it is highly unlikely that a high-frequency [short-term] trader can actually profit in the long term." He also found that there are no cycles in intraday data.

As I read the literature, this is not opinion. It is scientific fact. Traders who ignore it do so at their financial peril. Does this mean the markets are a random walk and that eventually all traders will lose because of the costs of trading? No.
Traders can exploit the longer-term trend component of commodity market price action to obtain a statistical edge. This is precisely what trend-following systems do. It explains why good trend-following systems traded in diversified market portfolios tend to make money year after year while day-traders invariably lose in the long term

11:36 ET Follow-up to Saddam rumor : The source of the Saddam exile rumor (see 10:05) appears to be a "dba" newswire story reporting that Saddam Hussein has agreed to leave Iraq if certain conditions are met. Three diplomats in the United Arab Emirates are cited as the source. According to the story, Hussein would leave the country if he was guaranteed not to be persecuted by the U.S. or its European allies. Article also states that further conditions of his departure would include withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Gulf region, the end of U.N. arms inspections and the end of sanctions against Iraq... We are not familiar with dba and therefore cannot speak to the credibility of this story.

ОК. Благодаря за съвета, но не мисля да го следвам. Аз съм си за надолу и имам силни причини за това. Дали силното движение надолу ще започне днес, утре или в началото на следващата седмица, за мен няма значение.

А що се касае до earnings - не гледаш ли какво става. Репортите досега не бяха толкова лоши, дори бяха хубави, но все пак пазарът вчера се разпродаде. Това показва, че позитивните очаквания на инвеститорите са толкова високи, че Интел и компания не успяха да им ги оправдаят. А това означава, че пазарът е priced to perfection и трябва да има изключително добри новини през earnings сезон, за да спре силното движение надолу. А аз не мисля, че новините ще са толкова добри, при все още несигурната икономика и опасността от война. Никоя компания няма да си сложи главата в торбата и да обещава неща,които не е ясни дали ще изпълни.
