Dan Galves, an analyst at Credit Suisse, said the Palo Alto-based automaker was never “a purely California phenomenon” and that Thursday’s turnout proved that. He expects the 100,000 estimate is fairly low and said:

We believe this much interest, generated only through word of mouth and modest social media promotion from Tesla, in a car that no one has seen yet, is really astounding. We continue to believe that Tesla has a significant headstart in a technology that will eventually dominate automotive. But even if others eventually catch up, it will be very difficult to compete with the perception of Tesla as the clear leader. Therefore we continue to see demand as no issue…profitability remains an open issue, but we continue to believe that will come.

Not only did margin debt recently hit nominal record-highs, it hit new record-highs in relation to GDP, as well. In other words, over the past several decades, investors have never become so greedy as they did recently. And yes, this includes the dotcom bubble.

One reason I prefer this measure is that it has a fairly high negative correlation with forward 3-year returns in the stock market. When investors become too greedy, returns over the subsequent 3 years are poor and vice versa. As of the end of February, the latest forecast implied by this measure is for a loss of about 35% over the next three years.

Но като цяло банките са по-скоро прецакани от ниските лихви и от новия по палвен път нагоре.

Model 3 ще се продава като топъл хляб. Дано не се сбият мераклиите кой да вземе, защото TESLA със сигурност месеци наред няма да могат да смогнат да задоволят търсенето.

But, to use Keynes’s (1936) words, ‘there is no such thing as liquidity of investment for the community as a whole’.

Analysts at KBW publicly suggested that Citigroup should break itself up, and at least one significant shareholder at Bank of America has told its chief executive that they believe it should separate its retail bank from the Merrill Lynch investment banking and US Trust wealth management arms.

Isolated calls for now, but if they take hold, bank investors may have more to consider than just the likely level of US interest rates at the end of this year, when Mr Obama will be able to tend to his golf score full time.
