The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships ferrying dry bulk commodities, advanced for the fourth straight session on Thursday, rising about 0.8% to its highest since July 31 at 1,698 points, bolstered by the bigger size segment. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, such as iron ore and coal, surged about 3% to 2,473 points, also extending gains for the fourth day running. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which usually carries about 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain cargo, fell by 1.6% to a near four-week low of 1,651 points; and the supramax index eased 11 points, or 0.8%, to 1,309 points.
