LONDON, June 28 (Reuters) - Billionaire financier George Soros said the dollar"s long-term uptrend appeared to have reversed and the greenback could fall by a third in the next few years, the Wall Street Journal Europe reported on Friday.

Soros, who famously bet against the pound when it crashed out of Europe"s exchange rate mechanism in 1992, told the newspaper "it seems that the trend in the dollar has reversed".
Trends in currency markets tend to last several years and involve major swings and so a drop of around a third in the dollar"s value from recent levels "would not be unprecedented" he was quoted as saying.
He said the dollar"s fall had "some very negative implications" for the world economy including the danger that it could frighten U.S. consumers.
U.S. consumers have been driving the U.S. economy and a drop in confidence could undermine the shaky economic recovery, which could in turn send the stock market lower, he said.
