Some medical centres, such as the Aadil Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan, advertise directly to Britons.
When our investigator emailed the Aadil, its boss Abdul Waheed Sheikh replied immediately with details and a price list.
Its deals can cost as little as Ј7,500 excluding transport. Briton Martin Farr was happy with his surgery there.
Martin, 55, who had spent three years on dialysis, forked out Ј10,000 to receive the kidney of a 25-year-old man.
He said: "The hospital was a little bit primitive but all the standard tests were carried out, staff were very attentive and the doctors were good."
Martin, of Sidmouth, Devon, says the donor received Ј1,000. He is now attempting to trace him to give him another Ј5,000 to ease his conscience, as he believes he deserved more
