Chinese try to prevent further increases in international pulp prices, but are isolated

We are in an upward phase of international pulp prices, both long-fiber (NBSKP) and short-fiber (BHKP), which began in January 2017. As explained in this column in the previous issue of this magazine, capacity pulp production increases in large jumps, while demand grows continuously year by year. As no new pulp mill is scheduled to enter operation in the second half of 2017 and throughout 2018, we are in a phase of "increasing demand and stable supply", which makes pulp prices increase. This is compounded by the increase in wood prices in Europe and the increase in the cost of energy - especially oil, in the countries of the Northern Hemisphere, which use a lot of this energy to generate energy.

These increases in pulp prices are clear in the US and Europe, as can be seen from the evolution of NBSKP ton prices in these two regions in Chart 1. In Europe, for example, US $ 810 per ton of pulp December 2016 to US $ 1,130 in March 2018. By April of this year, there are already big producers requesting the value of US $ 1,170 for this product and for May, US $ 1,200 per ton.

целулозата последния цикъл надолу беше горе-долу ноември 2015 до януари 2017. Алтри през този период почват от 4.30 и завършват на 4.16 като падат до 3

а фибрия, които са най-големите, почват от 13.52 и завършват на 10 като падат до 5.85

цикличността я има при всички commodities - БHP и Rio са почти 200% нагоре от януари 2016, Glencore са нагоре над 5 пъти за същия период!

Micron, дето считат продукта им подобен на commodity, има forward p/e от по-малко от 6.

Идеята ми е, че е така в света на commodities и е много опасно да инвестираш на върха.
